Katsina State is among the 36 states in Nigeria, and it is popularly called the “Home of Hospitality” which was formed in 1987 from some parts of Kaduna State. The State is bounded in the East by Kano State, in the West by Sokoto State, in the South by Kaduna State and in the North by the Niger Republic. Katsina State is the largest cotton producer in Nigeria. It is among the state in the northwestern geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

Katsina State has a total land area of about 23,561 Km2. It was ranked 17th out of 36 states in terms of land area in Nigeria. Hausa people are the largest ethnic group in the state, and Islam is the most practiced religion. Katsina was the fifth state in Nigeria to adopt Sharia law in 2005.
