Delta State is among the 36 states in Nigeria. It’s in the South-South geological zone of Nigeria. The capital of Delta is Asaba and Delta is also known to house Warri (a popular city). Delta State is an oil-producing state and is one of the nine Niger Delta states in Nigeria. The River Ethiope which is reputed to be the deepest inland waterway in Africa is sourced in and flows through Delta State. It is also has a thriving fishing industry. Delta State was defined out of the former Bendel State on 27 August 1991.
The slogan of Delta state is “the Big Heart” which is the largest producer of petroleum products in the country. Delta is the 23rd largest area in Nigeria with about 17,108 Km2 – 18,050 km2 land area. Delta State is based around the production of crude oil and natural gas as one of the main oil-producing states in the country.
The state is bounded in the north and west by Edo State, to the east by Anambra, Imo, and Rivers States, southeast by Bayelsa State, and on the southern extreme is the Bight of Benin which covers about 161 kilometers of the state’s coastline.
