Adamawa has 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) with Yola being its Capital. It is situated in the north-eastern part of Nigeria. It is bordered by Borno to the northwest, Gombe to the west, and Taraba to the southwest, while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon. Adamawa is one of the most heterogeneous states of the 36 states in Nigeria, having about 100 indigenous ethnic groups, formed in 1991, when the former Gongola state was divided into Adamawa and Taraba states. it was carved out of the old Gongola State in 1991 by the General Ibrahim Badamsi Babangida military regime.
Adamawa is one of the largest states, occupying about 36,917 square kilometers with Yola being one of the biggest commercial centers in Adamawa. It is situated in the Northern part is an Islam majority state in Nigeria, with a substantial Christian population.
