Yobe State is one of the 36 states in Nigeria that is popularly called “Pride of the Sahel”. It is located in the Northeastern geopolitical zone. The state was created on 27 August 1991. The state borders the Nigerian States of Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, and Jigawa. It also borders Diffa and Zinder Regions in the Republic of Niger.
Yobe State has 17 Local Government Areas which are Bade, Bursari, Damaturu, Fika, Fune, Geidam, Gujba, Jakusko, Karasuwa, Machina, Nangere, Nguru, Potiskum, Tarmuwa, Yunusari, Yusufari.
It is an agrarian State with deposits of several mineral resources, making it a potential area for agribusiness and mining. Yobe State has a total land area of about 46,609 Km2. The capital city of Yobe state is Damaturu.
