Zamfara State is one of the 36 states in Nigeria that is popularly referred to as “Farming is our Pride”. It is located in the Northwest part of Nigeria. It was created on 1st October 1996, it was part of Sokoto State. Zamfara is bounded by Sokoto State to the North, Niger and Kaduna States to the South, Kebbi State to the West, and Katsina State to the East.
Zamfara state has 14 Local Government Areas which are Zurmi, Maradun, Talata Mafara, Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Bungudu, Chafe, Maru, Anka, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Bakura, Birin Magaji/Kiyaw and Shinkafi.
The occupation of the people of the state is primarily farming, hence, the nickname. It has a total land area of about 37,931 Km2 and the capital city of Zamfara state is Gusau.
